PMI AUDIO Purchases TONELUX!

PMI-TONELUX

With great excitement, I am happy to announce that Tonelux Designs, Limited has been sold to PMI Audio as of the 15th of March.  As President of Tonelux, I have been designing, building and supplying the world with Tonelux products for 5 years, and I have reached a point where Tonelux and it’s family has grown beyond my capabilities to manage properly as a small business.

I have known Alan Hyatt, the President and founder of PMI Audio for many years, and we have chatted many times about working together to grow Tonelux, and we finally sat down and had a serious discussion about growing it and came to a mutual conclusion that my talents would be better served designing, inventing and realizing the dream I had of Tonelux, and the leadership, management and ability of Alan’s organization to grow Tonelux in a way that would increase availability, service, customer relations and consistency through his proven ability to run a professional company properly and with the love of the industry that we both share for professional audio.   Alan, over the years has proven to everyone that he is a man of his word and has the highest respect for the industry, and does not take his successes lightly.  I have found him to be one of the most straight up people I know, an opinion shared by everyone I have spoken with over the years.

I doubt you will see much change as far as the message of Tonelux, its design criteria, quality, tone, look, or prices.  What you will see is instant availability, fast service, un-paralleled support and the ability to develop new products faster, many of which I have been promising for months and years.  I am really happy with this, and together we both promise to all of you that it will only get better.

If someone starts talking about the purpose of art, then that person is probably a nazi or something similar. Look out!

Dave Lebolt has resigned his position as Chief Technology Officer at Avid. I’ve been informed by Avid that his last day in the office was June 18. To me, and I think many will agree with me, Dave has been the face of Digidesign. He was the General Manager of Digidesign before moving to the CTO position which he has now left. Dave also interacted with the user base through his ‘Dave’s Dirt’ column in DigiZine.

I specifically wanted to know who will take his place, and got the reply that:

As for Dave, the responsibilities of his role will be absorbed into other Avid leadership roles.

Which of course doesn’t say a lot.

I’ve also heard (and this has also been confirmed by Avid) that Peter Gorges isn’t with the company anymore either. Peter was the founder of Wizoo, a company that was more or less rebranded as AIR when Digidesign acquired it. Peter followed, and I’m sure he’s been a major force in creating the AIR virtual instruments many of us use today.

I asked Avid more than once to comment on both departures, but all I got from them was a conformation and a “we wish them well in their new endeavors”. It’s of course not Avid job to know where Dave and Peter are going (rumor says Dave is heading to Apple, but it’s unconfirmed), but one can’t help to wonder if this were mutual agreements and what the reason behind both leaving was.

Again I have to question where this company is heading right now. Cuts have been made, rebranding done, and now two major players in the company - and in the audio division in particular - has left. The future is very uncertain to say the least.

Tod bei Spectrasonics

“Der Tod verschont niemanden” sang schon der grosse Reverend Gary Davis. Jetzt besucht er Spectrasonics.

For more than a decade, Barbara Klinger has been one of the “unsung heroes” of the Spectrasonics Team. She was instrumental in the company’s success by establishing and managing the Spectrasonics warehouse in Henderson, Nevada - as well as coordinating all product launches, packaging, upgrades and International shipping. Barbara’s remarkable work ethic and enthusiasm for excellence was infectious to all who had the pleasure of working with her. When asked why she was such a perfectionist, she often replied that her job was important to get right - because the warehouse was putting the “final bow on a beautiful package” for our customers.

If you’ve ever owned a Spectrasonics product, it’s very likely that Barbara had a hand in making that package possible….in many, many different ways.

Barbara Klinger lost her battle with lung cancer in May of 2009. This is a deeply personal loss for our team at Spectrasonics, and she will be greatly missed by everyone.
